Notes from Glenn entering the 19th week of supporting our Clients and Caregivers, with office team & nurses working remotely.

“Catherine Goes To …”

EPIC Rehabilitation and Nursing at White Plains

Our Director of Business Development, Catherine Lanza, took her appreciation baskets to a new WFC Partner Facility – the EPIC Rehabilitation and Nursing at White Plains.  Here’s Catherine’s account of the visit:

EPIC Rehabilitation/White Plains – July 20th, 2020

“It was one on the hottest days of the summer, but it was not too hot for some of the key personnel of EPIC Rehabilitation and Nursing, to meet me outside to greet me and accept our donation of adult coloring books with snacks for 24 lucky residents. The facility opened in the Fall of 2109.

EPIC Rehabilitation and Nursing at White Plains is proud to represent the future of healthcare. As the first facility to be built from the ground up in New York State in the past decade, their facility boasts cutting edge technology, magnificent modern furnishings, and a state-of-the-art therapy department.

We were greeted outside the facility by:  George Michaels, Administrator, Christine Bockis, Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services, Colleen Melville, Director of Nursing, and Nicole Donnell, Director of Social Work.  It was a quick, but meaningful meeting, as I also brought literature on WFC, so they could contact us in the future for their home health care clients.”

Catherine’s visit was such a hit that the kind folks at EPIC posted a ‘Thank You’ on their Instagram feed:

“Thank you, Westchester Family Care, for your generous gifts and warm welcome. The books, supplies, and snacks are all so appreciated – and we know our staff and residents will really enjoy them!”

Briarcliff Manor Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care

Catherine Lanza celebrated National Ice Cream Day by bringing the Bona Bona Ice Cream Truck to Briarcliff Manor Rehab. Bona Bona is a Port Chester gourmet ice cream shoppe that is managing its way through the COVID period by serving up its legendary Crème Brûlée type of ice cream out of a truck:

Here’s Catherine’s narrative on her Ice Cream Caper:

Briarcliff Manor Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care – July 21, 2020

The residents of the Briarcliff Manor Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, received the sweetest of treats on a sweltering summer day!

Sandra Sindaco, Recreation Director and I collaborated on getting a beautiful ice cream truck to come on the grounds of the facility.  Bona-Bona Ice cream made a grand entrance in front of a patio of residents, ready for their ice cream!  Sandra was so organized and had already made out the lists for the residents of their ice cream choices!  They chose from:  Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Sorbet, Mint Chocolate Chip and Salted Caramel.  This was no ordinary ice cream!  The ice cream scoops were put in a cup and a cone was added to the side.  For the piece de resistance – a homemade torched Italian merengue was on top!  Delicioso!

The residences were even asking for seconds!  I saved mine and had it while writing this article.  It was the freshest mint chocolate chip I have ever tasted!

Some of the administrative team came out to sample the ice cream,  Avi Terebelo, the Administrator, and Stephanie Pierre, the Director of Nursing.  Everyone enjoyed the sweet treat, and some even asked when the truck would be returning!

Thank you Briarcliff Manor Rehab and Sandra for letting us be a part of your event!”

Celebrating Melissa Cleveland, Home Care Coordinator

Our newest Staff Story celebrates Melissa Cleveland who joined WFC in October 2019.  Melissa was new to the home care business but not new to caring and medical advocacy for her own family and for herself.  I’m so glad our paths crossed and we were able to support Melissa through her own cancer battle last winter.  She hasn’t missed a beat and her continually upbeat and optimistic attitude is an inspiration to everyone at WFC.

McKinsey & Company’s The New Possible: Human Stories Shaping a Post-COVID-19 World

McKinsey has published a remarkable collection of stories of how ordinary people are dealing with the new realities of working from home:

One of their key takeaways is:

“Executives may be excited about it but working from home doesn’t work well for everyone. As companies begin to think outside the office, those that empathize with the at-home needs of their people will have an edge in the war for talent.”

Central to the themes underlying these stories is a continuous thread of how employers understand the needs of the at-home employee in order to make the new reality work.

The guidance from McKinsey and other sources has been very helpful as WFC partially re-opens our Mamaroneck office this week after 19 weeks of working remotely.
