My husband received services from WFC for about 1.5 years as he was dealing with the side effects of Parkinson’s. His medical/physical/mental condition regressed to the point where he needed 24/7 aide-care involving total care including washing, toileting, turning, feeding etc.

My husband was a CEO of 3 different NYC hospitals and thus he was a highly functioning individual before his illness. In his retirement he had about 10 years of relative health and was able to have a second career as a sculptor- taking classes, participating in art shows, and selling some of his art. Also, he had many, many interests that he continued to pursue until the Parkinson’s made it impossible. Such interests as choir singing, meetings with his folk song guitar group, and playing folk music. He had a wonderful voice and had the folk song repertoire down pat.
This illness was difficult for him in that he felt that he could no longer be creative.

I often referred to him as our Renaissance man when talking about him to friends and family. I miss most his zest for living, his intellectualism, continual wish for learning, his telling of jokes and having fun, and my very interesting and wonderful life with him. He was also a gentle and warm man with many friends throughout his life.

The care that Howard received from WFC, and in particular from Tara, who spent more time with him than any other aide, was exemplary. It is difficult for me to convey how important that was for Howard and me. Tara always was gentle and caring while caring for Howard’s physical needs. His judgment was at a very high level. In one case he was able to solve a problem which would have complicated the care needed. As a result, Howard was able to be cared for at home until his death. Tara was also extremely supportive to me making my role as a caregiver easier and better for Howard. The nurses came regularly and were on call for telephone help, again helping my caregiver role. Glenn, also, was always available if I needed information or advice. I do not think I could have kept Howard at home without the help I received from WFC.
