Geriatric Care Management

WFC works with many in-home care specialists who help maintain and enhance our clients’ healthy quality of life. Geriatric Care Managers are professionals we regularly interact with as we work together on mutual clients.

Geriatric care managers are privately hired and advocate for older adults and their families by helping to identify their care needs and providing solutions to meet these needs. They specialize in aging and managing senior care, acting as quarterbacks for families, especially when the adult children live remotely. They are often also nurses, social workers, or gerontologists.

In our Westchester region, geriatric care managers play an essential role for those family members who are too busy to handle the daily details of their older parent’s life. The adult children of WFC’s clients tend to be busy professionals, like attorneys, accountants, doctors, corporate CEOs, and entrepreneurs.

Many geriatric care managers are members of the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA.) This national trade union has regional chapters, like New York, and narrower geography units, like Westchester, allowing local professionals to share ideas, network, presentations, and review case studies. WFC has been a corporate ALCA member since its inception.

The local Westchester ALCA unit was recently formed, primarily due to the efforts of Susan Keating, who has been a trusted partner and advisor to WFC since we opened our doors six years ago. Susan is an experienced care manager active in the leadership of ALCA and its New York chapter. In the small world of local business networking, WFC’s Founder, Glenn Lane, met Susan Keating through a referral from a member of his Westchester BNI Soundshore group.

Susan included Glenn in the list of invitees to join the recently formed Westchester unit. Glenn, in turn, volunteered to co-chair along with Susan Davidson, another veteran care manager active in ALCA. It’s unusual to have a corporate member active in the local unit, and we are honored to be a part of this new networking and educational group. We find it very useful for referring its care managers when we encounter more complex cases or ones with special requirements. Similarly, we credit geriatric care managers with being significant contributors to WFC’s growth by referring cases to us, who then stay on and become our clients.

WFC looks forward to the Westchester ALCA unit playing an increasing vital role in providing total holistic care to our clients. With COVID increasingly being seen in the rear-view mirror, our local meetings provide an ideal venue to personally re-engage with each other professionally. And as a corporate member of the New York ALCA trade group, we feel honored to be a valued referral as well as a referral source for local care managers.
