COVID Stories of Care | Reopening With Caution

Notes from Glenn entering the 15th week of supporting our Clients and Caregivers, with office team & nurses working remotely.

Reopening: Senior Living Facilities Accepting New Admissions and Visitors

We are seeing an increase in transitioning activity from lockdown pandemic conditions to a carefully phased reopening in slow and steady steps. As the home care industry cautiously transitions to a new normal, WFC continues to offer caregiver support to our clients at partner senior living facilities.

WFC is responding to a high volume of family inquiries and new clients starting care. In addition to requests for in-home care we are receiving inquiries again from clients for additional care in senior living facilities.  These facilities are carefully starting to loosen restrictions on residents’ sheltering-in-place protocols and allowing in visitors in a very managed way.

Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care Units are starting to open up admissions once again, keeping in line with the NY and CDC reopening phases. WFC can provide caregivers for residents in these facilities as needed for additional services beyond those delivered by the facility.

Welcome Back, Long-term Clients

New York State’s current Reopening phases are allowing employees to return to many workplaces closed by COVID. Some of our in-home based clients went to live with adult children or other relatives during these periods. Now that their adult children are going back to work, we are seeing several long-term clients return to their home settings and using our WFC caregivers and services once again.

It’s gratifying to hear these healthy and vital clients say they appreciate their independence. While grateful for the opportunity to live with their adult children, they are happy to be back home. Some adult children had hoped their parents would continue to live with them permanently, but many clients report they wouldn’t have it any other way but living on their own.

Hospitals Resuming Elective Surgeries, WFC Provides Safe Discharge Home

Another trend we are seeing in this reopening phase is that hospitals are beginning to accept patients who have postponed elective and less urgent surgeries. WFC can provide care to ensure a successful and safe recovery upon discharge.  This is not necessarily restricted to patients returning to their homes but also to clients returning to senior living facilities.

Introducing WFC Staff Stories

In the same way that we’ve been sharing stories about our clients, we thought that this Weekly Update is also a way to share our own stories on the WFC website. Most of us have been drawn to home care industry either by a calling to become a caregiver or by a personal connection through an experience with a family member or someone else.

This will be a regular new feature of the Updates.

As many of you are aware, I founded WFC as part of my experiences with Alzheimers’ and illness in my own family
