Sandra Zhisin

Meet Sandra Zhinin, a certified Home Health Aide (HHA) at Westchester Family Care Inc. (WFC). We proudly congratulate Sandra for being awarded the Heroes in the Home™ honor, a Statewide Recognition Program by the NYS Association of Health Care Providers which celebrates outstanding caregivers. Honorees have been identified by their agency as exceptional home care caregivers over the last year.

Sandra has been an HHA with WFC since 2016 when Glenn Lane first opened the home care agency’s doors. Sandra became interested in caregiving through her sister, a certified HHA herself, who provided care to their ailing grandmother. She saw a WFC job opening on social media that featured free HHA training. After responding to the ad, Sandra received a call directly from Founder Glenn Lane, and … the rest is history.

Sandra has made her home at WFC because she appreciates working in a culture where the agency is attentive to the client’s needs and treats its staff professionally and fairly.  She credits WFC with being committed to providing relevant, ongoing home care training and promoting open communications between caregivers and the company.

“I see WFC as a family. I recently obtained my degree and had a baby last September. Glenn Lane and the WFC team totally accommodated me with a flexible schedule.”

Sandra enjoys putting WFC’s Plan of Care into action, including building a relationship of trust and comfort with the client, as well as customizing the plan itself to suit the specific circumstances of the case. Sandra welcomes the close bonds she can forge with her clients, especially when working with the same ones over time. It’s emotionally satisfying for her to see a client’s condition or comfort level improve due to Sandra’s providing the full range of her caregiving skills.

Sandra herself is originally from Ecuador. She learned about one client’s South American culture and could converse in her native Spanish since the client was fluent in eight languages! She has a current 92-year-old WWII veteran client who enjoys practicing Spanish, which he learned in high school. Once he realized that Sandra speaks Spanish, they began communicating that way. This discovery demonstrated to Sandra the benefit of speaking to her clients in the language they prefer.

Working proactively with the WFC team, Sandra has added a new HR role to her responsibilities: recruit potential caregivers from the Hispanic community in Ossining, where she lives. She encourages the recruits to take advantage of WFC’s free HHA certification so that clients who prefer to speak in Spanish can be more appropriately serviced.

“I’m grateful for this new opportunity to work with HR recruiting Hispanic caregivers. There’s no way you can find work like that at any other home care agency.”

It’s easy to understand why WFC nominated Sandra for the Heroes in the Home™ award, which she so richly deserves. She has also been selected as WFC Caregiver of the Month in the past. Congrats on both! Her devotion to caregiving and going the extra mile for her clients are but two of the reasons we think Sandra is a homegrown superstar caregiver.
