Making a BIG Difference in the Lives of Seniors

Our mission: “To make a difference in the lives of our employees, the people we care for, and their families.”

We entered the home health care business to make a difference. We had our own personal journey caring for aging parents with Alzheimer’s, and that experience led us to start Westchester Family Care.

However, as you focus on the day to day details of running a business, you sometimes lose sight of what brought you to your mission and who you are serving.

This past weekend, we attended a memorial service for Howard Weinberg, a client who had passed away several weeks ago.

The service was beautiful. Meticulously planned by Howard’s wife Gloria, the service was held at the Wainwright House, an exquisite Westchester venue which normally serves as a holistic learning center.

Set on the water, the property was well appointed, tranquil and spiritual, most appropriate for this celebration of a life well-lived.

There were words from the family Rabbi, Gloria, family members and friends of many years regarding every aspect of Howard’s life. Through the family’s stories, we had the opportunity to learn about the man our client was prior to his illness and our entry into his life.

We learned that he had a long, esteemed career as a hospital administrator. We learned he loved to sing and especially loved Gilbert and Sullivan. We learned he loved to tell jokes (and that his catalog may have been a bit repetitious). And we learned that he was an artist, specifically a sculptor, and has works on display at the Mamaroneck Artists Guild.

What touched our hearts the most…

Gloria, as always, was especially gracious, calling out WFC for excellent home health care service and specifically recognized our caregiver Tara Dadebo for his gentle and compassionate ways, as he was an integral part of their family for over two years. We were so very pleased and gratified to receive her accolades.

Our agency has received a few industry awards for our service, such as being named a Best of Home Care Leader in Excellence, but praise from someone who has used our home care services is the highest compliment.

This is the praise we cherish the most.

Although Gloria had given us very positive feedback over the period we cared for her husband, it was especially flattering to receive her praise under this circumstance.

The other tributes to Howard were from close family members and friends who had visited regularly at home during the course of his illness. Unexpectedly, several of the speakers, each in their own way, gave our agency and Tara an extremely flattering review, citing our professional manner, our expedience to resolve issues, and our sensitivity.

This brought us back to the WHY.

Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of people we care for and their families

Why did we start Westchester Family Care? Because we wanted to make a difference in the lives of those diagnosed with Parkinson’s and other degenerative illnesses.

We wanted to share the benefit of our lessons learned to those who were facing what we had already faced. We wanted to give to others what wasn’t there to be given to us when our journey began. We wanted to deliver solutions to make the most trying times in one’s life a little less trying.

So we heard many a thank you on Sunday, but in fact, it is us who need to say thanks!

Thank you for reminding us of our WHY.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful details of the man you loved who we were privileged to serve.

And thank you for letting us know that the work we do does make a difference.
